I don't know programming!!

This seems to be one statement heard by me very often. Well anybody can think that yes, everybody shouldn't know programming. But no this is not a sentence heard from all people. These are the sentences of people who are calling themselves expert software engineers.

Yes these are the sentences of students who boast to be very good at Computer Science. I personally don't like the attitude that is followed. To my feeling Computer Science is a branch that involves developing innovative ideas, not only on paper but ideas that are implemented. Ideas that in some minute level improve the world in which you and I live in. Ideas which takes small footsteps towards a new era having giant leaps.

To my knowledge knowing the amount of deliberation and hard work required to create a new algorithm, come up with a new idea to solve a problem or even understand and implement an innovative idea is very high. And a Computer Science degree is awarded to a person who has excelled in creating innovative solutions for problems. Creation of innovative solution does not mean writing millions of lines of code that does some data transfer, does adding and removing of records or handling requests. Innovative solutions is writing a few thousands lines of code which would do things more efficiently.

UNIX devil behind nice UI

Recently I had started using Mac Power G5 in my college. I did not like the Macs before because of their limited number of software and a different UI. But now I feel that the UI provided in Mac is state of the art and really intitutive.

Its almost a week now that I have started using these machines. The UI is really astounding!!

And the easy of use is also great...Installing an Application just drag its image in the Applications folder and you are done...not those long installing dialogs like in Windows.

But wait...is it the only reason I liked Mac?
Well no, I could do almost every task I can do in Linux in a Mac. (Well I dont have access to an X Server in Mac or could not configure it...so could not do my Assignment nicely)

But surely Mac is one nice system.

Getting Googled!!

Well this is the second month of being googled!!

Since I joined USC and put up my page I am listed at the result of the first query.

And even more strange...my original "geocities.com" website is still ranked among the top ones. It is ranked 15th list. Something I really did not expect before.

Hope I do meet my expectation and continue the rank.

Google Launches Google Reader at Web 2.0: "Darren writes 'Google Reader, an online RSS reader, is currently being demo'd at the Web 2.0 conference. It apparently 'makes it easier to keep up with your ever-expanding reading list of content from across the web.' Here's the tour about how it works.'"

I posted this into my personal group. Instantly I got a reply from Nishit..."Even bloglines gives this functionality".

I had a look at Bloglines and got addicted to it. It's similar to my favourite Sage extension of Mozilla.

I feel that Google and Microsoft should come out with something like that which is more intutive. And also not to forget Bloglines capacity to store old news.

Google has a nice engine in Google News. I really like that, but it does not make sense in a lot of area as it does not provide additional functionality like Bloglines.

I'll prefer going through one page for my news instead of looking at five different sites!

The way the web is moving.....

Few days back Yahoo! acquired a small firm OddPost. The firm had an email service with interface just like Outlook Express. And yes it was better than Yahoo! ( PC Magazine Reviews).

Well this brings about a new twist in how web applications are desinged!

More and more sites are adding up interactivity to their webpages. The new Yahoo! look, where you can just change the theme how yahoo looks just by a click.
Even GMail uses a whole lot of Javascript code for its web interface.

The future should now see more and more code written to make things dynamic. With Mozilla (Firefox) eating up the IE share it is more obvious that Javascript will be more in use than other contempararies like vbscript (This should be the case especially for public domain pages).
